A cookie is a small file stored on your device by your browser. We use as few as possible, grouped into three categories:
These keep the site working and are on by default — they can't be turned off, because the site wouldn't function properly without them. On Refuelia, "essential" storage is mostly localStorage, not cookies in the strict sense: your cookie choice, your theme (light/dark), your language choice, your saved/favorite stations and, while a tab is open, a copy of your sign-in state (refuelia_auth_cfg and refuelia_auth_me, in session storage). None of it is written before you have answered the cookie banner, unless you change a setting yourself, and none of it is sent to our servers. Signing in sets one sign-in cookie, and Cloudflare, which protects the site, may set a security cookie against automated traffic.
If enabled, analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics) help us understand aggregate usage, which pages get visited, roughly how many people use the map, so we can improve the site. This data isn't used to identify you personally. Google Analytics, Cloudflare Web Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are not loaded at all until you accept analytics in the cookie banner.
Session recording. We also use Microsoft Clarity, which records how pages are used — mouse movement, scrolling and clicks — and can replay a visit so we can see where the site confuses people. Clarity masks text input and content it treats as sensitive by default, and we do not use it to identify you. Microsoft processes this data under its own privacy statement. Like the rest of analytics, it loads only after you accept analytics in the cookie banner, and never before.
If enabled, advertising cookies (such as Google AdSense) may be used to show ads and measure their performance. Google's own policies govern how that data is used; see Google's advertising policy for details. The AdSense script, and the Google consent cookies it brings with it (such as FCCDCF and FCNEC), are not loaded until you accept advertising in the cookie banner, and then only on a guide or article page that has a place for an ad. The Meta pixel is not loaded until then either. If you reject advertising, no ad slot is filled.
When you first visit, a banner lets you choose Accept all, Reject non-essential, or Manage preferences to set analytics and advertising cookies individually. Analytics and advertising cookies are never set until you consent. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using in the footer of any page.
If you're visiting from the EU or UK, the consent banner is how we ask for your permission before any non-essential cookie is set, in line with applicable e-privacy and data protection law.
