How Refuelia is run, how our data is gathered and corrected, and the standards we hold ourselves to.
Last updated: 11 July 2026
This page brings together, in one place, what Refuelia is, where its information comes from, how mistakes get fixed, and the editorial and moderation principles behind the site. It exists so that drivers, station operators and partners can judge for themselves how much to trust what they read here.
Refuelia is an independent, free-to-use live map of fuel stations and EV chargers, covering petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG and every common EV connector standard worldwide on a single map. Its purpose is narrow and practical: to help drivers decide not just where a station is, but whether it is actually useful right now — whether it has fuel, what it costs, how long the queue is, and whether a charger works.
Refuelia is a small, independent project rather than a large corporation. It is funded by advertising and, in future, optional tools for stations and operators — the core map is never placed behind a paywall. We publish our contact email below and elsewhere on the site; we do not publish a postal address, company registration number or other operator identifiers on the site at this time. If you need those details for a legal, press or partnership matter, contact us and we will provide what is appropriate to your request. There is more background on the About page.
Refuelia combines three kinds of information, and each is labelled with its source and its age so you can weigh it yourself:
Open map data. Station and charger locations, names, fuel types and connector standards come from OpenStreetMap and Open Charge Map — public, editable, widely used datasets. This is what lets the map show real stations even in quiet regions with little live activity.
Driver reports. Fuel and charger availability, actual prices, queue length, opening-hours corrections and reviews come from drivers who were just at a station. Every report carries a timestamp, and older, unconfirmed reports are visually de-emphasised rather than shown as if they were equally current.
Operator data. Where a fuel or charging network makes live data available and it can be verified, we use it directly and label it as official.
For market and price context we use official sources only — for example energy-agency and government feeds — and where no official source exists for a figure, we show "Data unavailable" rather than inventing a number. Full detail is in the Data Accuracy Policy.
No live map is ever perfectly accurate, and we don't claim otherwise. When something is wrong, there are three routes to fixing it:
By drivers, continuously. Anyone can confirm or contradict an existing report from the station's page. When several independent drivers report the same thing, that status is treated as more reliable; when reports conflict, the newer and confirmed data takes precedence and stale data fades.
By us, on request. If you spot a wrong price, a station that should be removed or merged, incorrect opening hours, or a charger listed that doesn't exist, tell us using the data-correction contact below. We review each correction, check it against the underlying source where possible, and update or remove the data — logging the change internally.
At the source. Because base locations come from OpenStreetMap and Open Charge Map, structural errors (a station in the wrong place, a wrong name) are best fixed at the source too, which benefits every service that uses those datasets. We're happy to point you in the right direction.
We aim to act on clear, specific correction requests promptly. Corrections that require checking an external source may take longer.
Refuelia publishes reference pages, guides, country and city pages, and market information alongside the live map. Those are written and maintained under the following standards:
Independence. Editorial content is not for sale. Stations, networks and advertisers cannot pay to be ranked higher, to be shown as more available, or to have negative reports removed. Availability, prices and trust scores are driven by data and driver reports, never by commercial relationships.
Advertising is separated from content. The site is funded by advertising, but ads are clearly distinct from editorial and map data, and advertisers have no influence over what the map shows or what our guides say.
Honesty over completeness. We would rather show less and label it honestly than fill gaps with guesses. Unknown data is marked Unknown; unavailable figures are marked unavailable; a source and a timestamp accompany data wherever we can.
Automation is disclosed. Parts of the site — news selection, market figures, freshness scoring, spam filtering — are produced or assisted by automated systems and third-party feeds. These can be wrong or incomplete, and we say so rather than presenting automated output as hand-verified fact.
Corrections are welcome and acted on. If we get something wrong in a guide or reference page, we fix it. The update date on legal and policy pages reflects the last substantive change.
Neutrality on sensitive matters. The service excludes certain regions from news and market coverage where honest, reliable sourcing isn't possible, and retains its "Support Ukraine" attribution. These are stated openly rather than hidden.
Driver reports, reviews and comments are what make the map useful, so they are moderated to keep them accurate and safe. Submissions pass through automated spam and abuse filtering; content flagged by other users or by our filters is reviewed manually. False information, harassment, personal data, spam, and dangerous or illegal content are not allowed and can be removed, and repeated or serious violations can lead to a contributor being blocked. Automated filtering means occasional false positives happen — if your report was removed in error, contact us and we'll look again. The full rules are in the Community Guidelines.
To correct or remove information about a specific station, charger, price or opening hours, use the data-correction form at refuelia.com/contact (choose "Correcting information on the map"), or email [email protected] with the station name, location and what is wrong. The more specific you are, the faster we can act.
If you run a fuel or charging network, represent a station, or want to discuss data, integrations or other partnerships, use the partnership option at refuelia.com/contact (choose "Partnership" or "I run a station or charging network"), or email [email protected].
