The Czech government has capped pump prices twice in 2026. From 8 April a daily maximum price for petrol and diesel applied, built from a three-day average of wholesale prices plus a margin of at most 3 koruna a litre, and it was later extended to the end of May.
On 21 September 2026 the government restored the cap for 1 to 31 October: the Ministry of Finance publishes each day the maximum price for the next day, now with a margin of 2.50 koruna a litre, and the excise tax on diesel falls by 1.939 koruna to 8.011 koruna a litre, the EU minimum. A station may charge less than the maximum, never more.
