Counted, not estimated

Across the 5 cities Refuelia maps in Australia, 1,722 stations and chargers are counted from OpenStreetMap. Roughly 75% of what is mapped is fuel and 25% is EV charging. This is not a national total; it is what has actually been counted, and it says when.

Pump prices in Australia: Western Australia only, for now

Refuelia shows pump prices on the map for Western Australia, and only there. They come from FuelWatch, the Western Australian government’s fuel price service, and each price on the map carries its date and a link back to www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au. The service covers unleaded 91, premium 95, 98 RON, diesel, LPG and E85, and the prices are updated daily. Open the map on Perth or any other Western Australian town to see them.

Everywhere else, stations without prices

In New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory the map still shows the stations, from OpenStreetMap, but it shows a price only if a driver has reported one, with the date of the report. Several of these states run their own price services, each with its own registration and licensing terms. None of them is connected to Refuelia yet, and Refuelia does not copy prices from a source it has no right to show.

For a long outback drive that matters: a price you see for a Western Australian station is the state’s own figure, and a station elsewhere with no price is not a station with no fuel. It is one the map has no price for.

How Australia compares with the countries whose governments publish pump prices to the public: official fuel prices by country. Why prices differ from one place to the next: how fuel prices are set.
