Across the 7 cities Refuelia maps in Italy, 4,387 stations and chargers are counted from OpenStreetMap. Roughly 70% of what is mapped is fuel and 30% is EV charging. This is not a national total; it is what has actually been counted, and it says when.

On 30 March 2026 the ministry’s national averages were €1.746 a litre for petrol and €2.055 for diesel at self service, against €1.886 and €2.193 with an attendant: about 14 cents a litre more for being served. On the motorway, self service cost €1.813 for petrol and €2.118 for diesel, 6 to 7 cents above the national self average.
Every Italian station reports its prices to the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT), which publishes them in Osservaprezzi Carburanti; Refuelia’s map shows the same official figures. Since 1 August 2023 stations off the motorway have also had to display the regional average price, and motorway stations the national average. In 2024 the Council of State upheld the sign itself but struck out the duty to update it daily by a fixed hour.
