Sinopec appears on this map as 中国石化, which is how mappers in China write it. Counting the Latin and the Chinese spellings as two companies would have produced two pages, each with half the forecourts.

An honest note about coordinates in China

China requires published maps to use a shifted coordinate system, and OpenStreetMap data for the country is affected by it in ways that vary by contributor. A pin can therefore sit a few hundred metres from the forecourt it describes. This is worth knowing before trusting any open map inside China, including this one.

What the count is, and is not

It is the number of Sinopec-tagged forecourts inside the cities Refuelia has counted, with the date. It is not a national figure — Sinopec operates far more sites than any open dataset records — and the page says "at least" throughout for that reason.

Why is the brand shown in Chinese?
Because that is the tag on the map. Refuelia normalises it to one chain but does not overwrite what mappers wrote.

Are the pins accurate in China?
Less reliably than elsewhere, because of the national coordinate offset. Treat a Chinese pin as approximate.
